Make and take calls

Answer, place and transfer calls in your browser: getting ready, the call bar, choosing the number you call from, extensions and emergency calls.

Crulon is your phone in the browser. Calls ring in Crulon while it’s open, and you answer, hold, transfer and end them from the call bar. If you have a desk phone, it rings at the same time.

You need
A computer with a microphone, ideally a headset, and Crulon open in your browser

Get ready

  1. Set yourself Available. Choose your status at the bottom of the sidebar. Only Available people ring in the browser; Offline closes the connection altogether.
  2. Allow the microphone when your browser asks, the first time you answer or place a call.
  3. Allow notifications when Crulon asks, so a ringing call alerts you while you’re in another tab.
  4. Pick your ringtone in Settings > Audio, and select Test to hear it.

If the ring card says Enable ring sound, click it once: browsers won’t play sound until you’ve clicked in the page.

Calls use your computer’s default microphone and speaker or headset. To use different ones, change them in your computer’s sound settings.

A second speaker

To hear the ring without wearing your headset, choose a Secondary ringer in Settings > Audio: the ringtone and message tones also play on that speaker, while the call stays in your headset. It needs Chrome or Edge. See Ring a second speaker.

Keep Crulon open

Calls ring only while Crulon is open. If you close it, you stop ringing within about a minute and show as Offline soon after.

With Crulon open in several tabs, only the tab you used last rings. The others show Ringing in another tab: select Use this tab to answer there instead.

Answer a call

A card appears at the top right with the line that was called, who’s calling (their name if they’re one of your contacts) and how long is left to answer. A call handed over by the AI agent, transferred by a teammate or waiting in a queue shows why it’s coming to you.

Select Accept or Reject, or press A or D.

You take one call at a time. While you’re on a call, new calls don’t ring you: they go to whoever else can take them, or follow the Call Flow.

A call you miss shows in the notification bell with Call back.

If the caller isn’t matched to a contact, or matched to the wrong one, select Who is this? or Wrong contact? to choose the right one.

Warning

Refreshing or closing the tab ends the call. If Crulon shows Call in progress on this account, select Reconnect to get back to a call that’s still going.

On an internal call between teammates, only the person who answered can put it on hold, and it can’t be transferred.

Make a call

Select the phone button at the top of any page to open Make a Call:

  • Call Contact: search your contacts. If they have several numbers, choose one under Calling.
  • Dial Number: type a number, or a three-digit extension.
  • Team: call a teammate.

Choose the number to call from under Calling from, check the line underneath, such as “Calling +1 415 555 0100 · United States”, and select Dial. The call rings for up to 30 seconds.

You can also call from a contact’s page, from a conversation with the phone button or Callback, and from the team list in the sidebar.

The number you call from

Calling from lists the numbers you’re a member of that can make calls. It starts with the one you used last, or your Default outbound number, set in Settings > Profile. That’s the number the person you call sees.

Where you can call

  • Crulon numbers call the US and Canada. Other countries, including Caribbean +1 numbers, are coming soon. Numbers on your own carrier can call them now.
  • Premium-rate numbers, such as +1 900, are blocked.
  • Include the area code, and the country code for another country, such as +44 20 7946 0000.

Call a teammate

Dial their three-digit extension, or call them from Team. Their browser and desk phone ring for up to 30 seconds. Teammates who are Away or on a call don’t ring: if they become free while you’re waiting, they start ringing. Internal calls aren’t recorded unless your workspace turns it on.

Emergency calls

You can call 911 from Crulon on a Crulon number. Before you rely on it:

  • Your workspace’s emergency address is the one sent with every 911 call, wherever you are. A Workspace Admin sets it in Settings > General. If it isn’t verified, the call still goes through, to a national emergency centre rather than your local one.
  • You need a number to call from: choose one under Calling from, or set your Default outbound number.
  • If the dispatcher calls back, the call comes to your main number and follows your normal call handling, not straight to you.
  • Workspace Admins and Managers are notified of every emergency call.

Only 911 works on Crulon numbers; other emergency numbers such as 112 don’t. On your own carrier, emergency calls depend on your carrier. Keep a mobile or landline to hand for emergencies.
