Ring a second speaker
Play your ringtone on a second speaker as well as your headset, so you hear calls when your headset is off. The call itself stays in your headset.
Take your headset off and you can still hear the phone. With a Secondary ringer, Crulon plays the ringtone on a second speaker too, such as your laptop’s speakers or a desk speaker. Once you answer, the call plays only in your headset.

What plays where
| Your headset or main speaker | Your second speaker | |
|---|---|---|
| Ringtone | Yes | Yes |
| Message tones, for new texts and mentions | Yes | Yes |
| The call | Yes | No |
Your “main speaker” is whatever your computer plays sound through, which Crulon calls the System output. To change it, use your computer’s sound settings.
Set it up
Open Settings > Audio
Under Secondary ringer, Crulon lists the speakers your computer can play through.
If you see Show my speakers instead, select it and allow Crulon to use your microphone. Your browser only shows speaker names to sites that may use the microphone; Crulon doesn’t record anything to list them. When your browser asks, allow it on every visit, not just this time: in Chrome, Allow on every visit. A one-time allow runs out when you close the tab or leave it in the background, and the second speaker stops ringing with it.
Choose a speaker
Select the speaker you want the ring on. The one marked System output is already ringing, so choose another.

Desk speaker
Test it
Select Test secondary ringer to hear the ringtone on that speaker. Select it again to stop.
To stop using it, choose Off.
Your choice is saved in this browser on this computer only. On another computer, or in another browser, set it up there. Your ringtone and message tone follow you everywhere, but the second speaker doesn’t.
When your speakers change
| What happens | What Crulon does |
|---|---|
| You unplug your headset, and the computer switches to the speaker you chose | Rings it once, not twice |
| You plug your headset back in | Rings on both again |
| The speaker comes back on another port, or you pair it again | Finds it again by its name |
| The speaker stops responding | Keeps trying to reconnect it, every few seconds at first and then every minute. Clicking anywhere in Crulon can also wake it |
| Two speakers have the same name | Asks you to choose one again |
If it stops ringing
Crulon checks your second speaker all the time, not only when a call comes in. If it hasn’t been able to ring for about 90 seconds (up to a couple of minutes in a background tab):
- A notice, Not ringing on and the speaker’s name, stays on screen until it’s fixed. Select Open settings to go straight to it.
- The notification bell shows Your secondary ringer isn’t working under System, with what went wrong. It doesn’t name the speaker. Opening Settings > Audio marks it read.
- An incoming call shows Not ringing on and the speaker’s name, so you know to listen for your headset.
Calls keep ringing on your system output the whole time.
Good to know
- Keep Crulon open. Like every call in the browser, the ring plays only while Crulon is open. See Keep Crulon open.
- Background tabs. For calls to ring while you’re in another tab, keep Crulon active in Chrome’s performance settings: open
chrome://settings/performanceand add my.crulon.ai to the sites that are always kept active. - One extra speaker. You can choose one second speaker. There’s no separate volume for it in Crulon: use the speaker’s own volume.
- Other browsers. In Firefox and Safari, Settings > Audio says choosing a second ringer needs Chrome or Edge, and calls ring on your system output only.
- Desk phones. A desk phone rings on its own, alongside your browser. The secondary ringer is for the browser.
If something goes wrong
The speaker you chose isn’t connected. Plug it back in or turn it on, or choose another in Settings > Audio.
Select Show my speakers in Settings > Audio and choose Allow on every visit. If your browser has blocked the microphone for Crulon, allow it in the browser’s site settings, then try again.
Two speakers have the same name, so Crulon won’t guess which one you meant. Choose one again in Settings > Audio.
Another app may be holding the speaker, or it may need reconnecting. Unplug it and plug it back in, or choose another.
Nothing’s wrong: your computer already plays through that speaker, so Crulon rings it once. It rings there as a second speaker again once something else, like your headset, is the system output.
Choosing a second speaker needs Chrome or Edge. Open Crulon in one of them.
In Settings > Audio, open Diagnostics under the speaker list and select Copy diagnostics. It shows the speaker’s name you chose and what Crulon sees, with no device details. Paste it into your email to support@crulon.ai.
