Register your numbers for texting
What US and Canadian carriers need before your numbers can send texts, where to register in Trust Center, and what happens while it’s reviewed.
Carriers in the US and Canada review the businesses that send texts. Until a number is registered and approved, it can make and take calls and receive texts, but not send them. You register in Settings > Trust Center.
- Where
- Settings > Trust Center
- Who can do it
- Workspace Admins, to start (the Manage Messaging Settings permission)
- Countries
- The US and Canada
- You need
- Your business’s tax details, a live website with a privacy policy and terms, and a payment method on file
What needs registering
| Number | What it needs |
|---|---|
| US local number | Local numbers registration (A2P 10DLC): your business, once, then a campaign that covers all your local numbers |
| US or Canadian toll-free number | Toll-free verification, for each number separately |
| Canadian local number | Nothing, to text within Canada. Texts to US numbers are sent, but US carriers may reject them |
| A number from your own carrier | Can’t send texts in Crulon |
Workspaces in Australia and New Zealand don’t have texting yet.
Until a number is approved, it shows SMS pending compliance in Settings > Phone numbers, and the reply box in Conversations says why it can’t send. Calls and incoming texts work as normal.
Before you start
- Your business details, exactly as on your tax documents: legal name, registration number such as an EIN, and address. A mismatch is a common reason for rejection.
- An EIN at least 30 days old. Newer ones are rejected.
- A live website about your business, with a privacy policy and terms and conditions at public addresses. Sites under construction or behind a password are rejected.
- A payment method on the workspace, for the registration fees. See Fees.
Sole proprietorships can’t register. Publicly traded companies also give their stock ticker, and the contact person must confirm a verification email within 7 days.
Register your local numbers
Start
Open Settings > Trust Center and select Register now under Local numbers registration.
Describe your business
The first steps ask for your business registration, the details from your tax documents, your legal structure and website, and a point of contact. These go into your business profile, which toll-free verification uses too.
Describe your texts
Choose every use case that applies, such as appointment reminders or customer support. Then explain how customers opt in to your texts, including links to your privacy policy and terms (Add the policy links inserts them), and give 2 to 5 sample messages like the ones you’ll send.
Confirm you won’t send texts about forbidden topics, such as gambling, debt collection or prescription drugs.
Submit
Check the fees and select Submit for review. You can Save as draft at any step and come back later.
Carriers review your business first, which Crulon calls the brand. Once the brand is verified, Crulon registers your campaign automatically. When the campaign is verified, every local number in the workspace can send texts, including numbers you buy later.
Verify a toll-free number
Each toll-free number is verified on its own, using the business details from your profile.
- In Settings > Trust Center, select Verify a number under Toll-free number registration.
- Choose the number, your use cases and how many messages a month you expect.
- Add 1 to 5 sample messages.
- Choose how customers opt in, such as a web form or texting a keyword, and give opt-in evidence: a public link, or an image of the form.
- Select Submit for verification.
Only toll-free numbers bought through Crulon can be verified here.
While it’s reviewed
The Trust Center shows each registration’s status and checks for updates on its own.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not started | Nothing submitted yet. A saved draft shows this too |
| Pending | With the carriers for review |
| Verified or Approved | Done. The numbers can send texts |
| Failed or Rejected | The carriers turned it down. The reason shows underneath |
Your business profile is locked while your local numbers registration is under review or verified. To change it then, contact support@crulon.ai.
Fees
US carriers charge for local numbers registration. Crulon passes the fees on at cost, adds them to your next invoice, and shows them before you submit.
| Fee | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Brand registration | $4.50 | Once, when your business is registered |
| Campaign review | $15 | Each time a campaign is submitted for review |
| Campaign monthly fee | $1.50 a month | Each month your campaign is verified |
Correcting a rejected brand costs nothing extra; a corrected campaign is reviewed again, at $15. Promotions don’t apply to these fees.
If a registration is rejected
- Your brand: select Fix and resubmit, correct what the rejection names and submit again. The first three corrections are free. After that, or if you change the business’s country, it has to be registered again and is billed as a new registration; Crulon asks before it does.
- Your campaign: select Fix campaign and correct your use cases, opt-in description or samples. It’s reviewed as a new campaign, and its review fee applies again.
- A toll-free number: select Fix and resubmit, correct what the reviewer asked about and say what you changed. Resubmit within the time shown to keep its place in review.
Submitting the same details again is refused: they’d be rejected again.
STOP, HELP and opt-outs
When a customer texts STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT or a similar word, they’re opted out of texts from every number in your workspace, and their carrier sends them a short confirmation. They can text START to opt back in. HELP gets a short reply from the carrier. These words only count as the whole text.
Opted-out numbers go on the STOP list, which outbound campaigns skip too. See Texting rules.
If something goes wrong
Its registration isn’t approved yet. Check its status in Settings > Trust Center.
Registration fees are billed to the workspace’s payment method. Add one in Plan & billing, then submit.
Copy your legal name, registration number and address from your tax documents character for character, including LLC or Inc., then resubmit.
Make sure your website is live and public, the privacy policy and terms links work, and your opt-in description explains exactly how customers agree to texts.
It’s only in workspaces in the US and Canada, and needs the Manage Messaging Settings permission. Ask a Workspace Admin.
